My Daum Aparthotel

Nova Ponente, Val d’Ega, South Tyrol

Original architecture with respect for tradition & nature

The former Gasthof Daum, or rather the guesthouse with its boss “Maria”, who ran a strict regime there for decades, is well-known in Deutschnofen.

Entrepreneur Peter March has taken over his grandparents’ farm and, together with his wife Kordula Denk and Bolzano architects Dietmar Fäckl and Brigitte Bertignoll, has turned his happy childhood memories into a holiday home. The newly built Aparthotel My Daum with 12 apartment suites was opened in December 2022.

“Skiing from the village ski lift to granny’s and then a delicious dinner. Pure freedom in summer. I was the lucky one who got this special place from my parents,” says the passionate restaurateur, who is continuing the catering business with a new philosophy. “It should be a place where you can feel free and yet be catered for. That was the basic idea.”

For free spirits, individualists & nature loverser

The aparthotel with breakfast service is designed as a “holiday home”. The 12 apartment suites impress with spacious terraces, clear lines and interior design highlights. A panoramic sauna with relaxation room & the modern infinity pool as well as the view of the 3000 metre peaks of the Brenta Dolomites guarantee complete relaxation.

The existing house, which had stood empty for many years, was completely demolished and rebuilt. During the planning phase, the client had one central requirement: the house should not be a foreign body in the landscape, but should blend harmoniously into the natural surroundings with a view of the Brenta Dolomites. The Dolomite chain, which rises to the west of the Adige, stretches over a length of 40 kilometres. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park.

Filigree architecture

At first glance, the simple façade with the wooden struts in front and the shingle-like wooden gable panelling is pure understatement. Only on closer inspection does it reveal itself to be a sensitively thought-out journey through time into the past of the Daumhof, a typical Eggental farmhouse, which over time – following the general tourism trend – was converted into an inn with “guest rooms”. Anyone who remembers the former “Daum” will immediately recognise that the new middle section bears the stylistic features of the old house. To avoid focussing too much on the modern architecture, two complete floors were built into the slope so that the building appears smaller from the street.

Heavy wooden beams interact with airy metal elements and the surroundings. They convey a sense of security and protection. The large and small, repeating triangular shapes also suggest an association with mountain peaks. Huge panoramic windows, which offer a view of meadows, forests and mountains, blur the boundary between inside and outside. The mind becomes calm and clear. The soul breathes a sigh of relief. It is a retreat for personal freedom, enjoyment and active relaxation. The architectural concept emphasises its function as a sustainable holiday home and opens up plenty of scope for individuality.

Reduced to the essentials

Clean lines and natural materials such as wood and stone, combined with the rich, warm earth and natural colours, create a modern loft feel. Sparingly staged elements in industrial-style black satisfy the need for minimalist, luxurious living and aesthetic sensitivity down to the last detail. The successful reduction to the essentials in My Daum will delight free spirits, individualists and nature lovers.
